Determination of Major Elements and Traces

Hair tissue analysis is used by many healthcare professionals world wide as a routine means of determining levels of trace elements, nutrients and potentially toxic metals in hair. This information can be a valuable tool in assessing nutrition and exposure to undesirable elements. Sample collection is non-invasive and can be safely performed by individuals, unlike collection of blood or tissue samples which require collection by medical professionals. LabWest’s standard hair analysis suite is: Note: LabWest provides analysis only, and recommends that interpretation of these results be undertaken by a healthcare professional See here for a typical report SAMPLING HAIR FOR ANALYSIS - WITH LABWEST KIT Using Labwest sample kit - obtainable from healthcare professionals or Labwest: Take a hair sample according to the instructions included in the kit. Complete the information panel on the sample bag. Place the sample bag in the reply-paid envelope, seal and post to LabWest. SAMPLING HAIR FOR ANALYSIS - WITHOUT LABWEST KIT You will need: o A clean plastic ziplock bag o Clean stainless steel scissors o An envelope for posting o Our Instruction Sheet (here) Approximately 0.5g of hair is required for analysis (about a tablespoon full). Use clean stainless steel scissors to collect the sample. Thinning scissors may be used. The sample should be taken from close to the scalp, and the nape of the neck is generally the most suitable place to take a sample. If hair is long, the inner (closest to scalp) 3cm should be submitted. Treatment with chemicals may affect results, so it is recommended that hair submitted for analysis should not have been coloured or bleached in the past 8 weeks. Place the sample in a clean plastic ziplock bag, labelled with your name, birthdate, email contact and date of sampling.
